They should have made the movie about the junkyard cars
They were much more interesting than the annoying and obnoxious main characters that this movie foisted upon the viewer.
Just saying.

It probably would have turned out like Cars. Horrible point of reference.
Who busts the Crimebusters?
I actually agree with you and I don't think it would turn out like Cars if you gave it proper execution. To be honest, the red car was my favorite character of the whole movie. From the point in which I was a small child, I would cry when he got smashed.
shareComing soon...
Cars 3: The Junkyard
Lightning and Mater somehow wind up in a junkyard, or in their world, a graveyard.
Shh, don't give Pixar any more sequel ideas!
Everyday when you're walking down the street
everybody that you meet has an original point of view
No, I'm sure Pixar has learned their lesson when it comes to sequels. They only did Cars 2 because the original was such a freakin' cash cow. Even to this day, I hear about how much little kids LOVE Cars. Personally, I don't see it. But I think Pixar will do better in the futur.... *hears about Monsters University* Um, never mind.
I always thought that the sequelitis that Pixar seems to have become horribly afflicted with was more of an influence by the parasitic presence of Disney than anything. I would at least hope the Pixar folks proper, if nobody else, would much prefer to keep coming up with new and interesting things.
shareIt's weird how the Toy Story sequels were all masterpieces, but sequels to anything else is looked down upon.
shareI can't say I have an immediate objection to Pixar doing sequels to its properties, I just think they're at their best when they're doing new things - I was especially impressed with Up - and being stuck doing sequel, if I dare to say, cash grabs, feels like a tremendous waste of their talents.
That being said, I'm not overly attached to any of the Toy Story movies myself. I wasn't aware there was any double standard there. One thing I think the Toy Story movies are great for are for seeing the evolution of Pixar's style and technology from its early to middle to modern period.

A sequel to Up... probably be called Down where he sails to the center of the earth.
Actually, if anyone's interested, I have a really successful series on Deviantart that does just this. Obviously they were all at their end of their roads by the time the movie happened, so these are all prequel stories. The series is called 'Tales from Ernie's Disposal.'
So far I've done at least a bit of story for all the cars except for the blue car and green truck (aka: Dusty & Ol' Green.) I've given all the cars owners and their own unique stories based on what they described in their lyrics. :) Unintentionally, the car that has the biggest story is Pinky, the pink convertible in the movie.
Check out my DA gallery if you're interested, I've put a ton of work into this series. :)

I think they were discussing a hypothetical film that was made by people with talent, and not fanart hacks who couldn't come up with an original concept of their own if they tried.
