Remake on the way

Surprised no-one has posted this yet, so I may as well - a CGI remake of The Brave Little Toaster is on the way:

At first, I was quite excited at this news. But after looking into it my enthusiasm has been replaced with dread. First, it's from Waterman Entertainment - the studio behind the Alvin and the Chipmunks films.

Second and most importantly though, none of the team behind the original seem to be on board - despite Jerry Rees (Director of the original) having announced he had plans in place for a sequel. Check out the Ask Me Anything he recently conducted on Reddit - his love for the original is clear to see:

So overall, i'm worried that this remake will continue on from where the Disney produced sequels left off, rather than boast the darker edge of the original.

Your thoughts?

No thoughts other then that this sequel has absolutely NO hope of being as good as the original. The original and it's amazingness was the result of almost a perfect conception, when you see the interviews and words from Jerry Rees, most notably the 1-hour long interview with Jerry Rees and Diana Oliver on youtube. You get the feeling that everyone on the team shared a vision for the movie and that it was really a product of love. Plus they didn't have a studio telling them what they could and couldn't do which gave them a lot of freedom to make it dark like it was.

I'm very sad that Waterman stole, yes stole, the rights from Jerry Rees. He was SO close to finishing his own script for his own direct sequel for the movie. I'm betting if he'd finished it he would have gotten together as many of the original crew as he could too.. it would have been amazing.. and that makes me sad.

Rees should make his own movie and start up a Kickstarter campaign. I'd donate

Well, that's too bad, but maybe an update is needed.

The original Brave Little Toaster film had deep themes about the integrity and better quality of traditional appliances, and the cold, detached and slightly frightening world of future technology. Somehow CGI just doesn't work with those themes, it feels hypocritical to even consider it. Besides, imagine all the time and effort that went into the original film, only to be left in the dust under a CGI-animated remake that'll probably just never compare to it... very sad. 😞
