'I love you my friend'
"I love you my friend"
After what, 2/3 days?
I guess lifelong bonds generate quickly in the illegal fighting underworld.

It is probably something similar to Stockholm syndrome. Sometimes when people are in very dangerous or scary circumstances bonds form fast. For example sometimes during emergencies people will fall in love fast because of heightened emotions. In war soldiers form bonds and friendships fast as their lives are in constant danger. Well the Kumite was pretty damned dangerous so maybe that had an effect. As gay as the scene seemed he could not have been gay after sleeping with that lady (they sure fell in love fast too) so BI at best but I think they were both heteros and it was just a bromance or something.
shareMay I remind you that Van Damme kisses Jackson goodbye, but not his female companion. Just putting that out there.
shareDux slept with the lady reporter, but he was probably thinking of Jackson the whole time.
shareI found this weird myself. They just met that weekend at a tournament where they could fight each other and they are saying I love you lol
shareIt's still much more time than Titanic took place over, or almost any movie with any kind of romantic subplot, for that matter.
Speed? A couple of hours.
Never defend crap with "It's just a movie"

I'm trying real hard to be the shepherd.
You have to remember that they bonded intensely over the video game, when Jackson said "Not bad, kid."
It was a very powerful scene, and it symbolized both Dux's transcendence over the alienation he felt upon arriving in the hectic, foreign culture of Hong Kong, as well as the familial ties that were so important to Dux regarding Senzo Tenaka, which of course drove him to partake in this epic, exotic, dangerous odyssey in the first place.
"Not bad, kid." So much power in those three little words, delivered so purposefully by the solid actor Donald Gibb. Within those words you will find the answer you seek. Within those words, you will find love.
XD
You made my day.
Take care, God bless.
Excellent post!
Drawn back from depths of time...
it was a testosterone intense bromance. They bonded over violence and martial arts. Dux took it pretty bad when his friend was hurt and not sure if he would survive. Dux then not only defeats the enemy but pretty much has him say uncle for payback. When Dux's friend finds this out he is willing to be t here for Dux anytime, anywhere. That is a true bromance there.
Although I suspect if the reporter wasn't in the room with them it would have went Brokeback.
