Possibly the worst acting ive seen in a movie.
Dennis Quaid was horrible, that annoying accent and just plain s hit acting this movie SUCKED big time.

shareSometimes an actor's greatest appeal is not how well he can adopt an accent. His appeal as in art,is in the eye of the beholder; and this reviewer's eyes say this film is still a winner. Quaid and Barkin were hot in'78 and this film is still smokin'!
shareWere u watching a different movie? This film was a great showcase for Quaid and Barkin's talents, letting them really go for it and it certainly showed on the screen, they are both wonderful.
I think Barkin was probably in high school in '78. <g>
shareTry early 70's.
i must agree with the original poster. Quaid was horrible, possibly the worst performace i have ever seen.
shareThis movie is awesome. It's been one of my favorites since the first time I saw it. I can't even say how many times I have watched it over the years. Quaid and Barkin rocked. So did Ned Beatty.
Quaid's acting and accent were over the top big time but I felt this was one of the rare cases where it actually worked.

Agree with OP, possibly the worst acting I have seen in good movie--get rid of Quaid, you have a pretty solid film.
shareWell if Quaid was supposed to be from NO he got the accent TOTALLY WRONG!
And yes - he was terrible overall. And Barkin similarly - especially with her silly ass giggling and smirking.
one wonders what kind of movies you have been watching because this one is wonderful. probably a lot of folks think your accent is annoying as is you taste in movies.
shareQuaid plays a great cocksure hero. There are only a few actors that can get away with that kind of grandstanding smugness, but he showed in this and Innerspace that he is one of them.
Do you like having sex? Then DON'T buy a Nintendo!
Loved this movie from the first. Just watched it again. Still love it. Read the screenplay. IMHO its perfect for its genre. Equal love story/mystery but without Quaid/Barkin I can't even imagine who could pull this off, maybe Jack Nicholson in younger days.

photog,
Uh-huh! We agree. Quaid was BORN to play this role. And, thank you!
The more Ken Loach films I see, the more I think they need English subtitles.
I agree that Dennis Quaid's accent and performance were pretty bad but I didn't think anyone else was especially bad.
