Was the hill scenes shot on several different locations?

Y'know, where Derek falls/Robert hangs. Looks steep as hell sometimes. And then not steep at all.

Hmm... might just have been shot in a certain way, I guess.

No trick photography in that scene. Peter Jackson WAS hanging upside down, off a very steep cliff in Pukerua Bay. The same location was used for all those shots. Different camera angles add to the confusion.
