I love this film, but one thing I could never understand... How come the Fix-Its couldn't fix the stillborn but Harry, with a limited knowlege of Technology and primitive 80's parts, manages it no problem?

What it all comes down to is very simple. A car battery.
The stillborn was so because of the power failure when they blew the fuses. All Harry did was use a car battery to give it some juice. Unlike an animal, a machine can take a jolt at any point and "come to life" for lack of better words.
Harry never actually fixed the stillborn, he accidentally knocked it and a toaster into a sink with a bunch of chemicals, and it was shocked back to life.
