S1 E3 Lan's husband

On which side is he fighting? I understand he is not a VC. But he's not member of the regular vietnamese troops either. Is he just a complete dropout who hides in the bush until the war is over?

How probable is this? That a VC fighter does not kill an armed USA-soldier for "protecting" his wife? How could he decide, from a distance, what the US-man, the ennemy, was doing with/to his wife? And even if he was convinced that the US-officer had been kind to his wife, no way that he would not have killed the enemy. So the script is bad at this point.

I think the fact that Lan do Goldman any harm first could have been part of it.

sry, Dave, but I don't understand this sentence. Could you please try to say this in other words?

Sure it wasn't you who wrote the script. So when I blame the script there's no need for you to justify. I'm just saying that this part of the script, this sub-plot, if you want, is weak (in comparison to many others that are not weak at all). Episode 1.7 is the worst episode of the whole series, imho. But that's for later.
And sure I agree with you that a TV drama has to make some concessions to the audience. From what I hear and read the series has aired in the USA at primetime. Here in my country it was shown at about midnight, btw. And a movie, TV or cinema, can pose questions without giving the answers; the aim is then to make people make up their own mind, and discuss about it.
