S1 E1 "You were in the L.P. ..."

says LT Crippen to Anderson in the Chu Lai Headquarters.
What is this L.P.?
It's funny, in the dubbed version they're using exactly this expression, but it doesn't make any sense in my language, lol.

English is not my first language. Any corrections are welcome.

"LP" stands for Listening Post - a room or tent used to rely radio and electronic communication. It is called a "Listening Post" because it is also used to intercept radio and electronic communications of the enemy to know about their movements and plans.

Addendum:

An LP is also a small section of men (two or three) who gotta go outside the main perimeter a few hundred meters & listen for approaching enemies. They serve as an early warning or a 'trip wire' if you will. It can be quite hairy.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

Thanks, nickm2! 😃 I didn't realise that Anderson, Johnson and Mickey were also "a listening post". I thought they were just out on patrol.

I have concluded that the series has certain expectations of knowing some of the era's military slang.
