Why did they pick Lisa Eichhorn to play the American writer. Her voice was so annoying and the manner of speech seemed so deliberate. It's as if she was trying to change her accent and it was so annoying. Ugh!

An amusing little side to the Lisa Eichhorn story: She appeared in a Midsomer Murder and played an American from Philadelphia. Some of the reviewers here at IMDb complained bitterly about her awful American accent and how it grated on their nerves. The thing is that she is from the US--New York. The actor playing her husband is Canadian and the reviewers found his accent fake also!
I couldn't stand her either. She had one-note smarm down to a science and was so full of herself. Her delivery reminded me of a stilted, self conscious style you often hear in '50s commercials and some shows/movies from the 60s and 70s too. Rosemary's baby and the excorcist come to mind. Anyway, I kept wishing she'd be outed as a distant relation of the real killer, with some hidden agenda behind her stupid book that did nothing but rehash the court's findings.

Mostly, she just expressed concern and mentioned she would have to get back to her sick mother within a few days. What a b!tcth. /s Is it just older women you don't like, or all women?

Also, you clearly don't know the meaning of the word shrew. It's a woman of violent temper and speech. There was nothing of that nature coming from the character. Period.

shareI have always severely disliked Lisa Eichorn's accent. I was rewatching some epis and again, I can hardly bear it. I started to second guess myself on this wondering what my bias is, etc., then saw this thread. So it isn't me.
I actually think it is her natural accent and speech pattern, after moving to the UK. I find that this happens to many Americans who live in the UK. I am pretty sure, I would also end up sounding like this, if I were to move to the UK. I pick up accents pretty quickly without intent.
I forced myself to watch anything with her in it.
I found her character's personality perfect for a Boomer who's work was questioned by an attractive, powerful man. Morse was giving her the much more interesting and name-making story and she was digging in her heels and calling him names. lmao. Boomers.
Your point seems similar to what I meant to say. Eichorn spent part of her childhood in my PA hometown; we never crossed paths because she was 7 years older than I, but it made me take notice when she appeared in various projects. She also attended a different high school. Eichorn also spent time in Canada, so she may well have a triply blended accent (US, British and Canadian), which could be a bit annoying. She also tends to be soft-spoken, which doesn't help.
Eichorn is all right, but she is hardly a great actress.
