Was the unaired pilot...

the episode that Jonathan Brandis was on, or was he on the first episode they actually showed?

reply

Jonathan Brandis was only on the pilot episode of Good Morning, Miss Bliss that aired on NBC back in 1987. He did not play on any episodes of Good Morning, Miss Bliss that aired on The Disney Channel.

Does anyone know why NBC didn't go with the original cast on the pilot episode? Seems pretty dumb to pilot something, then re-cast.

reply

I have no idea why they didn't use the original cast for the pilot episode. Maybe the original characters were unavailable at the time. Hayley Mills was the only original character that played in the original pilot episode.

Brian Austin Green was busy with 90210. Jaleel White was busy with Family Matters.

Actually, it was still quite some time before either of them were in either of those shows. By the time GMMB ended, it was still another 9 months before we saw Urkel, and almost 2 years before we saw Brian in 90210.

The main reason was a total cast overhaul. They even killed off Miss Bliss' husband and got new actor's for her weird friend and Mr "Gerald" Belding.

Can this episode/footage be found anywhere? Because the pre-teen girl secretly living inside of me would pee herself.

reply

Yeah surely there is some footage somewhere!? where can we find it?

reply

wow I never heard this, I would LOVE to see the original first ep. It's funny cause this morning I was watching the thanksgiving episode of the college years...and jonathan brandis and brian austin green appear (along with some other celebs) to save the turkey day dinner. wierd.

The show was very different from what would eventually become a household name show that people remember. Brian Austin Green's character was kind of like a young Alex P Keaton. A conservative kid who wore a suit to class and carried a brief case. Jaleel White came across as a bit of an everyman joker as opposed to the uber geek he was on Family Matters. NOt a jock a leader/schemer but a regular schmo like Mikey/Max Batimo. Jonathan Brandis I can assume was the new kid in town. But his character had a hint of sadness to it as his brother was dying. The show was a lot more serious. It's interesting how much things changed and how original pilots are initially invisioned.

The pilot was never unaired. It was shown in the Facts of Life time slot in the summer of 1987.
