Nephew's parents?

I already posted this on the "a goofy movie" board, it didn't even cross my mind to post it here lol but anyway:

Who were Huey, Dewey and Louie's Parents? Donald was their uncle and so was uncle Scrooge(he was also Donald's Uncle, making them their great uncle). I didn't see any episodes where an answer was revealed, and I haven't had time to watch "Quack Pack" On toon Disney so I don't know if an answer was revealed there either. Anybody know what happened to their parents?

Go buy this comic and you'll find out. http://www.comixtreme.com/forums/showthread.php?p=235469#post235469

But I'll Tell you

Donalds mother is Hortense McDuck Scrooges baby sister. H,D, and L's mother is Donalds twin sister Dulla.

i still maintain they are really the offspring of donald and daisey but daisy had them young so to save face she sent them to live with relatives of donald in the pretense that they were his sisters children, until she could admit the truth as she felt that donald wouldn't be a good dad due to his temper and right now the secret must be kept due to her career

So where does Donald's uncle Ludwig von Drake fit into all of this? Apparenly Donald's mother was a "McDuck" and his father must have been a "Duck" as that is Donald's last name. So since Donald's parents were a "Duck" and a "McDuck" how does he end up with an uncle by the name of "von Drake?"

Here's some more food for thought. Heuy, Dewy and Louie's last name is "Duck." Thus, if their mother is Donald's sister then one of two things must have happend for them to end up with this last name. 1. They are born out of wedlock. Had Dulla been married to thier father then they would have their father's last name. 2. They are the product of an insestrious marriage between Dulla Duck and one of he close relatives also of the last name Duck. So any way you slice it H,D and L seem to have come from a rather scandalous begining. This may explain why their parentage has been kept somewhat secret.

reply

Donald's father's maternal uncle could be a Von Drake.

reply

But if they were the product of an incestuous marriage, then wouldn't at least one of them probably have some kind of mental or physical defect? I think the first possibility is the likelier one.

But I'm still not sure why the parents weren't more present in their lives. Maybe they were in an accident. Or maybe one of them killed the other. Or perhaps they both went to prison.

or Duck could be like Smith, a very common last name

reply

Wasn't Daisy's last name "Duck" as well? So if H, D and L's father was Daisy Duck's brother like someone said, it makes sense that their last name was "Duck". (=^.^=)

In Dom Rosa's version of the family tree and events ( and the most popular version among the Disney comics fans since he is one of the most worthy successor of Carl Barks) Scrooge has got two sisters; one of them married the son of Grandma Duck and she gave birth to Donald and Della (or Dumbella in the original animated short, a name which Don Rosa changed for obvious reason) whereas the other one married Ludwig Von Drake. So Ludwig is Donald's great uncle NOT by blood but by law. Ludwig does not actually appear in the published version of Donald's family tree (due to conflicts with his publishers I think) but Don Rosa says that Ludwig does appear in his own personal version as the husband of Scrooge's sister.

Actually there are more family trees. Many Duck comic book and cartoon makers have their own versions.

The one I prefer is the one made by Don Rosa. This one is based on notes he got from Carl Barks.

OR

everyone could just realize that these are cartoons and they don't need parents. a person draws them a piece of paper and BAM! you have a new being.

reply

That's a crazy idea.

"Anybody know what happened to their parents?"

They were Mickey Mouse's Thanksgiving dinner.

reply

Well, the official explanation, as given in their first cartoon from 1937, is that they put a firecracker under their fathers chair, and he had to go to the hospital. In the meanwhile, Huey, Dewey and Louis was sent to live with Donald. They are still there, so I guess that they are technically abandoned now.

We can't stop here! This is Bat-country!

This was an interesting thread! But I have something two things to add:

1: I have heard, that Donald and Daisy are distant cousins, which explains the fact, that they have the same last name.

2: I have also heard, that the nephews' father's name is Daniel.

That's true, at least according to Don Rosa. Too bad he has never used the character as far as I know. In that case Donald and Daisy are technically relatives in-law but legally this does not prevent them from marrying if they wish to. For those who do not know this already, according to Carl Barks Daisy has a sister who is the mother of May, April and June ( Daisy's nieces).
