The Best Cartoon Shows

DuckTales - By far my favorite cartoon show of all time. It had great animation, likeable characters, and original fun storylines for each episode.

G.I. Joe - Had great action and great characters. The action figures and the toys were the best, though.

KissyFur - When I was A little kid, I used to watch this show on Saturday mornings really early. It was the first show for the cartoon lineup on Saturdays. It's wasn't the best show, but it does bring back alot of memories.

GoofTroop - I just like Goofy. I was around twelve when this show came on.

The Smurfs - On Saturdays, my brother and I used to watch this show religiously.

Alvin And The Chipmunks - My brother and I used to watch this show all the time too.

The Real Ghostbusters - Alot better than the other Ghostbuster show.

Punky Brewster And Friends - Don't laugh, it was a cool cartoon.

He-Man - In elementary school, He-Man was the coolest.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Same as He-Man.

reply

I loved Bobby's World. It was a cute show.

"Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior"

reply

does anyone remember that weird cartoon with Roseanne Barr? i think it was called Little Rosie or something.

reply

Yeah, I remember it. I never really watched it, though.

"Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior"

reply

yeah, wasn't there an episode where she was warned to not eat some kind of gum or candy because she would turn into a blueberry (or some other fruit) if she did?

reply

I liked DuckTales but it was never a favorite of mine. I was born in 1986 so most of my favorite cartoons are from the 90's

1. X-Men- probably my absolute favorite cartoon when I was a kid. Wolverine was the coolest! Whenever my friends and I played "superheroes," everybody was a power ranger, except me; I was always Wolverine.

the rest are not in order.

2. Batman the animated series
3. Spider-Man
4. RugRats
5. Doug
6. Ren & Stimpy
7. The Real Ghostbusters
8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
9. David the Gnome (I can't believe it only lasted a year!)
10.Sonic the Hedgehog (the first series with Jaleel White, the others were bad)
11.Rocko's Modern Life
12.AAAAHHH! Real Monsters
13.The Super Mario Bros. Super Show with Captain Lou Albano.
14.Gummi Bears
15.Darkwing Duck
16.Muppet Babies
17.Alvin and the Chipmunks
18.Tiny Toons

Now shows like The Simpsons (classic era), Futurama, and South Park are my favorite cartoons.

I can see you right now in the kitchen, bending over a hot stove. But I can't see the stove.

When I was a kid, my brother and I used to scream at the bus driver for getting us home too late to hear the theme song to Gummi Bears. There was a little 4 pack: Gummi Bears, Ducktails, Chip and Dale, and Tail Spin. I don't remember the order they were on, tho.... they were the best!

reply

Yes!! Those four were the cartoon milestones of my childhood, too. I bet we must be around the same age bracket.

reply

I expect so, I was an 80's baby... my brother thinks I'm mad because I cried when I got Ducktails for christmas, I was so happy. I haven't seen them in around... what... eight or ten years? It was just so wonderful. You know the delightful thing? They were as good as I remember, which is really rare.

Now if I could only get the bloody Treasure of the Golden Suns on DVD and the rest of my little afternoon pack I would be so happy!

reply

Doctor Doom -- I think you win. I am not a cartoon person. I don't think I could have thought of all of those!! I didn't *and do not now* watch a lot of tv, even cartoons, but I suppose mine are really simple.

I expect if my life were on the line, I might be able to name 10 cartoons max -- and most of them would be shows my brothers watched, not I. But, my shows:

Gummi Bears,
Tale Spin
Chip and Dale,
Ducktails,

and for modern cartoons, add Invader Zim. The poor little inept alien, I want him to win. He's so adorable.

All of my favourite characters were always the bad guys! Don't know what that says about me, eh? I always wanted Oscar the Grouch to succeed in ruining the day, and I always cheered Don Karnage. I just love the baddies.

reply

I like villians too (as my screen name suggests).

The reason my list is so huge is because I have a LOT of free time.

Ironically, I still find time for friends, reading, and video games.

"DuckTales - By far my favorite cartoon show of all time. It had great animation, likeable characters, and original fun storylines for each episode."

Exactly, and plus, that show had cajones! I know of two episodes in which characters actually die. They weren't robots, they were living beings. "The Right Duck", that evil ruler actually feeds one of his henchmen to his monsters, and "Double-O Duck", Launchpad sends the villain to his doom. How many shows today would have the guts to show, or hint at, character being killed off? Very few.

These are my favorite cartoons in no particular order. Most are from the 80's to early 90's which makes sense as I was born in the middle of the 80's

1. Care Bears (Dic/Nelvana)
2. Gummi Bears
3. Rainbow Brite
4. Popples
5. Punky Brewster
6. My Pet Monster
7. Strawberry Shortcake (original)
8. Winnie the Pooh
9. A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (I love all Scooby-Doo series)
10. Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters
11 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (original)
12. Teddy Ruxpin
13. Ducktales
14. Beetlejuice
15. Garfield and Friends
16. Dennis the Menace (FOX)
17. Underdog
18. Alvin and the Chipmunks
19. Muppet Babies
20. The Wizard of Oz
21. Madeline
22. My Little Pony Tales

Shows like these were needed then and they are needed now. I could never bear to watch the kind of stuff that is on nowadays. They all suffer in terms of animation, characterizations, and plotlines.

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy - Abhorrable!
Ed, Edd, and Eddy - Disgusting
Camp Lazlo - Detestable
My Gym Partner's a Monkey - Disgraceful
The Fairly Odd Parents - Just Plain Unlikable!

The only station that has remained dependable through the years is PBS.

Well, I was born late 70's and watched afternoon cartoons until 1990. I was wondering if anyone remembers BraveStar? It was about the wild west set in the future.

Ducktales was great, liked GI joe, despised Talespin and Rescue Rangers.
And She-ra was such a let down after HE-Man. In retrospect, I guess the saddest thing is that we had to use 'real' to distinguish the Ghostbusters from the other generic cartooon that was nothing like the movie. Also wondering if anyone ever saw that 'gem' where the hunter ghosts? If you had Atlanta TV then, you might have caught it. I think Denny Moore would actually annouce it.

Some of the Cartoons mentioned above I recall coming on Saturday Mornings when I did not get to see them.

I guess Superfriends and Ducktales were my all time favorites, though.

You are all forgetting the extreme awesomness that was and is "Gargoyles". What an indescribably awesome show.

The complete first season and Season 2 volume one are out on DVD, in case anyone is interested.

Thank you to whoever started this thread!
