So what happened to Huey, Dewey, and Louie's parents?

I hear they sent the boys to stay with Donald after a prank of theirs went wrong and it put their Dad in the hospital with a back injury, but they've stayed with their other relatives for so long I can't help but wonder if their parents are either always traveling or dead.

Also, was Quack Pack canon with DuckTales and Darkwing Duck? The only reference I can think of to DuckTales was Donald's service in the NAVY but we never hear of Uncle Scrooge, Webby, or Launchpad or Gizmo Duck. Oh, and in that show there is quite an abundance of humans whereas in the aforementioned there were mostly anthropomorphic animals.

Not sure what happened to the triplets' parents. All I know is Donald's sister just dropped them off at their uncle's house and never looked back. As for Quack Pack, I think so. But it might not be since I read the show had humans too (in the DuckTales and Darkwing Duck verse, they considered humans who came to their world aliens or beak less mutants).

Don Rosa said he wanted to do a comic story where Huey, Dewey and Louie search for their father, but just couldn't figure out what to do and how to do it - they either have a reunion but stay with Donald anyway, or go back to living with their biological parents, which would change the status quo of the comics. I know that death is considered a forbidden subject in Disney comics, so that couldn't be an option - though Don Rosa did manage to get away with story called "The Prisoner of White Agony Creek," which implies that Scrooge and Glittering Goldie have sex (though not explicitly like R. Crumb.)
