I didnt Care for Fenton or Bubba Duck..

Instead, they should've brought Donald back on a semi-regular basis and gone back to adapting more Carl Barks stories.

I couldn't have disagreed with you more. I love Fenton, and even Bubba had six strong episodes. As a matter of fact, in my opinion, the earlier episodes aren't as interesting as the later ones. They felt more like they were made just for children, while the later episodes can entertain people of any age group.

Thing is, the older globetrotting adventure episodes were more in the spirit of Carl Barks original Uncle Scrooge comics which people of all ages enjoy til this day; they were also partially the inspiration like Tintin for Indiana Jones.

Some of the earlier episodes were also adapted from Barks' work. The later Duckberg based episodes with Bubba and Fenton seemed to make the major characters supporting characters in their own show and took away from the high adventure element.

And again, I have to disagree with you. First of all, there were also some later episodes, like "Liquid assets" and "The land of Tra la la", which were based on Carl Barks stories. And there was also still a lot of globetrotting in the Fenton and Bubba episodes, even though it's maybe true, that more episodes just took place within Duckburg. And even though I haven't seen that many early episodes (I've focused on the later episodes for different reasons), I really have to say, that I prefer the later episodes over the earlier ones. They feel more thought-through, more funny, more for people of all ages, and not just for kids.

I have to agree with you about one thing though: Donald should have made more appearances. I would have loved to see what an interaction between him and Fenton would have been like. But then, Roy Disney Jr (Walt Disney's nephew), who still was in charge of things back then, wouldn't let them use Donald that much, because he didn't think TV cartoonists could do his uncle's characters justice, which is why Donald only made cameos on "Duck Tales". But I have to thank him for that, for if Donald had been a regular on "Duck Tales", they probably wouldn't have introduced Fenton, who is my favorite character on the show.

Well theres the error right there. You're biased in your opinion(nothing wrong with that) and by your own admission havent seen many of the earlier episodes, most which were better animated as well. Fenton/Gizmo Duck became too much of a Deus Ex Machina in the episodes he appeared in sort of dumbing down the central action.

Donald would've been great on the show, but if they had him since the beginning there'd be no Launchpad whos one of my favorite characters.

Well, I guess we just have to agree to disagree. I've grown up only with the later episodes (I was actually eighteen years old before I found out, that there were sixtyfive (!) episodes before Bubba was introduced), and Fenton is my favorite character on this show, so I'm bound to preferring them over the earlier episodes. And what I've seen of the earlier episodes (even though I have to admit, that it's only like a half dozen episodes out of sixtyfive) doesn't impress me that much either. To me, these episodes aren't bad of course, but there's something missing there, that many of the later episodes had. Of course, Fenton isn't around yet, which is enough for me to not get that excited. But I also can't escape the feeling, that the later episodes generally were better made than the earlier ones, even though you feel the other way around.

And yes, Launchpad is another DT character, who only was introduced to fill the gap after Donald. But they did a good job with it, because it's hard not to like him, no matter how stupid he is and no matter how he always crashed his planes (he even considered it a disgrace, if he managed to land successfully!). But for me, they really hit the jackpot with Fenton.

Yup, whatever man.

I didn't mind them.

Yeah that Bubba and Fenton characters didn't fit in too well in the duck universe, and probably were the reason why the show went downhill. Even Launchpad was sidelined for Fenton.

I am much older now but definitely wouldn't mind watching Ducktales 2, where Donald comes back from his navy training to Duckburg (the start of Ducktales showed him leaving and putting the nephews in Scrooge's care) and the comics are brought back to screen. Hell I wouldn't mind even watching the life and times of Scrooge McDuck comics on small screen.

Quack Pack was basically DuckTales 2 sadly...

From what I understand, they didn't want a series with someone with a strong prescence like Mickey and Donald, and so they went with someone considered a B character like Scrooge, problem is he was already seen as an A character in other nations and this series just overpowered him as character with prescence.

And I couldn't disagree with you more. I feel the last season is by far the best.

Even Launchpad was sidelined for Fenton.

Maybe they had run out of good stories about Launchpad at that point, while Fenton was still new and fresh? Launchpad did get an important role in "Darkwing Duck" though.

I liked Bubba alright. Fenton... he had his moments. And other times he could be pretty annoying. Gizmoduck was cool, but overused later on, iirc. It's been quite some time since I've seen DuckTales tbh.

reply

Fenton was great I hated Bubba biggest mistake disney ever made was adding Bubba
No one liked him and they tried to put him in ever episode .It what killed the ratings.
They had 4 kids and it was to soon in the series to add a new ones.Plus Bubba was
odd and had a strange voice.

reply

Meh, Gizmo Duck is a take it or leave it for me, I didn't him but he wasn't a favorite of mine, wasn't happy when came int Darkwing Duck either but oh we'll.

Bubba Duck, yah my least favorite of the characters. Could have done without him.

2012, bring it on!

reply

I think the show jumped the shark the second, the nephews started singing in a school about who Bubba Duck was. Before that, I don't believe any of the characters ever dropped reality of their world to sing and dance like a musical.
