Can someone explain what Bonus Scenes are?

It seems there are Bonus Scenes in every single episode that are around 3 minutes long that don't appear in the aired episode.

I was watching one recently of RJ, Brooke & Rick before the wedding where Rick sat down at the kitchen table and spoke to RJ about his parents getting back together, etc. That scene did not appear in the episode meaning Rick never sat down at the table.

So do they shoot Bonus Scenes for fans to watch ... or are these scenes that they wanted to fit in the episode but couldn't?

They're non-essential scenes that didn't make the final cut due to time constraints. There are probably additional scenes that don't make the final cut that aren't shown as bonus scenes.
