Cinema debut of the great Steve Thomas!!!

While quite predictable and entertaining, the most noteable reason to see this film is to see the Great NHL Player, Steve Thomas, one of the league's greatest
clutch playoff and overtime performers. Thomas does so much that it doesn't even matter that he has no audible lines. He is quite simply, the hidden gem of this film. Thomas is KING!!

Thomas was the one on the leg machine- swayze is curling w/ headphones on and he hits Thomas with the towel. He's also one of the guys who hold Youndblood down for the shave. Oh...and when the coach is telling the players he will send them to the Junior A teams, he's looking straight down.

Sorry, the guy's my favorite player.....

The Leafs are morons for letting him go.

For "older" Leafs fans (circa. '92-'94)...Peter Zezel is also in this film. He is the player who comes out at the end of the last game after it is all but won and tells Rob Lowe to come off the ice to avoid the inevitable fight with the opposing team's goon. I have not seen this movie for some years, and I recognized Zezel immediately when I saw it, but did not know that Stumpy Thomas was in it until I read it here.

reply

I think it's also Zezel who does the opening montage when Youngblood's skating around the rink doing all the twirly tricks.

reply

Well, correct me if I'm mistaken, but Dean Youngblood is righthanded. Zezel was a lefty.

And, I know for a fact, that Randy Walker did the "stunts" for Rob Lowe. Randy used to be my hockey coach and at the time of filming he was playing Junior hockey in Canada. The talent scouts or whoever it was saw him play and said he looked like Lowe...so they gave it to him. You'll notice that he's the first person listed under "stunt players" or whatever the category is at the end of the movie.

Yeah, Steve Thomas is awesome. He was always one of my favorite Blackhawks.

In 2001, the team's website had a Q&A with Steve Thomas, where you could email a question, and if he picked your question then it would be posted on the website.

I asked him about being in Youngblood, including his number and name in the movie---which was #12 Jordie. (My lone contribution to IMDB was that information). He talked about how he enjoyed being in that film, but it was right before training camp so he was out of shape from the summer months.

Also, in an article in Inside Hockey Magazine--around 1990 or so--there was an interview with Keanu Reeves. He mentioned how when they were practicing on the set of Youngblood, he was able to stop every player on a penalty shot EXCEPT Steve Thomas :)

reply

The Leafs are morons? What about my Islanders? They let Thomas go in his prime. Steve Thomas was a hard charging great gutsy player. I never knew he was in Youngblood. Thats hilarious.

reply

Peter Zezel is awsome i skated with him in St. Louis as a kid at hockey camp. As for Thomas we leafs fans should be used to losing great players

reply

as a leaf fan you should be used to losing...period!

reply

No *beep*

The leafs lose so does every other team except for the one that wins the cup.. WTF is your point? PERIOD!

Reason can answer questions, but imagination has to ask them.

reply

I'm just curious as to why they'd feature one of the ugliest and least articulate players in the NHL in the movie. Kind of odd if you ask me.

reply

Steve Thomas was a great man...he ended his career on a happy note.

reply

No he didnt he got cut in training camp 2006 by the leafs!

reply

Wow. What a douche comment. You must be a Ranger or Penguin fan. Kind of odd that the comment made no sense. Oh well.

Awww, you all are forgetting about the ever entertaining Paul Cavallini!! He was in this movie too (that's why I watched it, my sis watched it for Zez and Steve was a bonus). I met Paul and Peter Zezel back in 1994. Both nice and Paul was a funny guy. Dang, those were the days...
