I haven't seen this movie, and don't really plan to. But Ozzy plays a preacher!! Is it worth watching for his performance, and if so why isn't this more well-known?
Also does anyone else think the plot sounds a little too much like a little film called "The Gate" (I know it was released before the gate, though).
I saw this movie today for the first time, and I didn't even see Ozzy in it, and I only really watched it because of him and Gene Simmons. Although I wasn't paying much attention to it *wasn't the best movie*, but he must have a really breif part, I don't even remember a preacher in it lol. But I don't know, see it, you might have a different opinion, that's just mine.
I would just rent it. Just dont expect to much from this movie and by that I mean the acting is very obviously done in one take to save money and the editing is terrible, lots of error BUT it is worth seeing.
no regrets, thats my motto that and everybody wang chung tonight
The movie is worth seeing...ozzy and gene each only have one line in the movie yet they are the only ones on the cover...its funny
The movie was better then i thought it would be....dont bother renting it cause its the same price to buy...i got it for 5 bucks at best buy...everyone go out and get a copy

To me, as a longtime fan of this movie, yes, it's worth it. If you were into the '80s Metal scene (as I was), hated the PMRC (as I did), and scoffed at the idea of alleged cryptic "back-masked messages" on Metal albums (as I also did), then go for it. Just don't take it seriously. That seems to be the mistake made by most of the critics (professional and amateur) who have panned it down through the years; they've taken it far too seriously and apparently have no sense of humor. The movie was meant to be taken tongue-in-cheek; it was meant as a parody of the entire '80s Metal scene, complete with a rock singer with black leather and chains and tattoos and "big hair" galore. It even spoofed the PMRC in one particular scene early on (in which the rock singer, "Sammi Curr", makes one helluva good point, by the way: "You cannot legislate morality, or music, or people's minds..."). Eighteen years after its release, it still makes for one great leave-your-brain-at-the-door-and-pass-the-popcorn movie (IMHO). And if it turns out you don't like the movie, you can always use the DVD ($6 at your local "Best Buy") for a frisbee or a coaster...
Oh, and to "Boomstick": technically, both Ozzy Osbourne and Gene Simmons had more than "one line each" in the movie. Ozzy had a few of them (all improv), and Gene (who did a great job as the D.J. "Nuke") had several. (Personally, I love the part where, talking about the recently-deceased "Sammi Curr", he says "Don't you get it? He started to believe in his own hype!" I've always enjoyed "responding" (a la "Rocky Horror"), "Look who's talking, Simmons!"}
Finally someone else who really appretiates this film! I was actually only very little when this film came out and I only discovered it about 4 years ago in a second hand dealers (quite sad), without the knowledge of the two famous 'Rock' icons that take a brief center stage (which is how it should be), and I still love it to this day. I believe the director made a nice debut with this little jem (he's apparently an actor gone director, which are good sometimes, because they can relate to the other actors on some level and even bring out better performances in them). I was annoyed to see that the US DVD of the film provide Ozzy and Simmons' faces stuck on the front cover's all gleaming in their historical glory, it's so irritating to see them being used as some marketable commodity as if the film couldn't survive without them! Makes me want to head-bang a wall! However if it gets people to purchase the film then I suppose it's at least doing some good (especially as Ozzy is starring in his own sitcom, which has revived his career from its glamour aged grave). I had the video and leant it to all my friends then ultimately lost it down the line, not sure who has it now! Besides that, they all loved it and I was even randomly nicknamed Ragman, for the two years of my sixth form because of this. Anyway I'm pleased to say that AnchorBay over here in good old England, are releasing it to DVD. All there resent releases (that are not available in the us), like 'The Hills Have Eyes Part2', 'The House Box Set', and soon a 'Hellraiser and Phantasm Box Set' have been awarded with A* treatment, with widescreen transfers and packed with plenty of eye pleasing features, so lets hope that AnchorBay UK will finally give 'Trick or Treat', the DVD treatment it deserves!! ...Ragman
When I was a kid and I saw this movie, I was terrified of my turntable for a while. The backwards talking freaked me out bigtime!! Not a bad little 80's horror flick IMHO.

I enjoyed this movie very much. I especially like the song Sammi sings in the gym--good 80's metal...teehee...I saw this when I was a kid and it kinda freaked me out a little with the backwards talk on the record, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Good flick...

Happy to see that im not the only one that digs this movie! Its not a great movie, but its a very entertaining popcorn flick. I only have the VHS, so maybe its time to upgrade to DVD.
LOL I actually got this one for free at our local Pump station. they had a whole bunsh of dvd some store couldn't sell so I had to make a very hard choice: which of these bad movies am I going to take. I am going to watch it and maybe I'll actually like it (who knows). Atleast it didn't cost me any money :D
It's good to see someone with something valid to say about this movie. Having grown up in this era, I feel a strong bond with the movies main character, Eddie. Being a headbanging teen in Australia in the 80's was like being a Satanist in Salt Lake City. Just the fact that my friends and I had long hair and liked black clothing, left us open to ridicule from our peers, untrusting stares from our elders and not to mention numerous searches from police, aparently because we looked guilty. The upside was that we always felt safe in shopping malls. Only because we usually had a security guard trailing us from a safe distance. Apart from my bond with the character Eddie, the movie also included my 2 great passions, Horror and Heavy Metal music. Unlike other B-grade horror/metal movies of it's time, such as Rocktober Blood, Hard Rock Zombies ,Black Roses and The Edge Of Hell, this was a B-grader with some mainstream appeal. If you grew up in this era and have never seen Trick or Treat, I highly recommend that you give it a go. If you are a big fan of today's new breed of metal, you may find the music to be a bit dated, but what the hell, if you give it a try, you'll never know how much you could enjoy it.
Do you like the whole 80's stupid horror film type movies? Do you like heavy metal? Do you want to see a fun movie? If you answer yes to any or all of these questions go check it out. You can find it in Walmarts in the DVD throw away bin for about $6 bucks with tax.
I first saw this movie in theaters when it was released in 1986. I was just a kid (15) and very much into the metal scene. It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen on screen. You have to understand back in those days there weren't any movies made about the heavy metal scene. And at the time there was this national obsession with metal being satanic. People were buring metal records that were considered "Works of the Devil". It was really laughable. So this was a good movie for metal head at that time. Unfortunately, it hasn't withstood the test of time. If you're growing up in modern times, you probably won't think much about it, but this movie will always have a special place in my heart.
If you see the DVD cover and want to buy it cause you see Gene and Oz on the cover, then don't bother. They have a combined five minutes in the entire flick. They are only cool cameos, period. Watch it cause it's a cool flick about satanic metal. The only knock I have is that 'Skippy' plays Eddie and his charecter seems to be the only metal head in the entire school, with the exception of his even nerdier friend. Simply unrealistic. I was a metal head and we always stood strong and were NEVER picked on.
Next time you wanna watch a horror film, give this one a shot. I always watch it on All Hollows Eve.
