Didn't everyone like heavy metal in 1986?

I was a senior in high school in 1986 and everyone liked heavy metal. No way someone would get picked on for being a metal head.

I remember 30 years ago being in 10th grade. Metal was huge (Ozzy, Motley, RATT) but so was all the Top 40 stuff...all the chicks wearing their hair a mile high and marinating in their perfume, acting the role...and if I recall, all the guys were exactly the same as Tim Hainey in Trick Or Treat. If you didn't fit in, or wear brand name gear, do up your hair...etc., then you were a "dirt ball" as they liked to call people. But you're right, nobody messed with the metal heads.

I think the main reason he was picked on was because he was a loner.

The movie really didn't make sense in that aspect. Sammi Curr was supposed to play at the school and it's stated that the entire student body is dismayed that he was cancelled. Yet the one kid that seems to like him is bullied.

Groupthink isn't usually the most sensible. Also women I don't think take to it much. Exceptions could be a Halloween dance theme and as they go along with bully boyfriends; metal freaks are more nerdier.

No one messed with me and my badass Mike and the Mechanics crew. Except for the toughs who were into The Outfield... we'd have to rumble sometimes...

I never saw "trick or treat" but if we're talking 1986, the movie "adventureland" was supposed to take place in 1986 in Pittsburgh or somewhere, and it was not my experience of 1986 in Los Angeles. There was an interesting message board on the other site about just that...
