I just had a refresher on Spock's behavior

I had seen Star Trek III years ago and I knew what happened in it but I just recently saw it again and it refreshed for me why Spock was acting the way he was. I times I have to remind myself the state Spock is in at the beginning of Star Trek IV and what he has just gone through because at times I forget and I think, why is Spock acting so dumb? "In case you change your mind." "Is there something wrong with the one I have?" "Captain about these colorful metaphors." "The hell they don't"......

I almost forgot that Spock isn't quite fully Spock yet due to ST II & ST III.

That was the running gag: this was basically Spock mkII, level 1. But he's pretty much intact by the end of the film.

This was the second Star Trek movie I saw, after Star Trek VI, and I was a little confused about it at first. They probably tell you everything you need to know in the beginning, but as a kid I must have missed it, and I couldn't figure out why Spock was so dumb or where the Enterprise had gone.
