What alien race made the probe?

What kind of race made the probe?

I mean whales?

I'm thinking something star trek and the closest thing I can imagine is that they are related to aquatic Xindi..

If you saw those episodes of Enterprise the aquatics sounded a lot like whales.

reply

It reminded me a lot of the Rama probe from Arthur C. Clarke's series of novels. I think that's where they got the basic idea from. Although the story is very different, the probe's shape and its mysterious origins are very reminiscent of Clarke's story.

I don't think they would be aquatic, I even imagined them being mechanical. Advanced mechanical beings may not differentiate between species such as whales and humans for instance in terms of intelligence.

reply

Not necessarily whales. At the time of their previous visit, whales may have represented the most intelligent species on the planet.

"Live long and suck it, Zachary Quinto!"

reply

The whale concept was just stupid liberal hippie Utopian bull$hit. But since the aim of the episode was comedic from start to finish it actually fit brilliantly. Why would you destroy a Universe to talk to whales? REALLY!? See how funny that is!

George sings his whale song up to the Probe.

PROBE ALIEN 1: "What the heck is that? It's nonsense."
PROBE ALIEN 2: "Ask it to resend its message."

The Probe responds and George again sings.

PROBE ALIEN 1: "It's still gibberish. Rotate 90 degrees for better reception."

The Probe rotates 90 degrees.

PROBE ALIEN 2: "These stupid things haven't evolved at all in 10 million years."
PROBE ALIEN 1: "Retract the antennae and then blow the planet up. Bunch of wasted space."

"Live long and suck it, Zachary Quinto!"

reply

What could George have been saying that they'd think is gibberish?

I'm thinking "OMG! Space Probe! Waaay Cool!"

"After years of fighting with reality, I am pleased to say that I have finally won out over it."

The Kaminoans built the whale probe. They live on a water world that has a lot of flying whales among other things. They build Clone Armies for some, and Whale Probes for others.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Death is the standard breach for a complex prize.

According to the film's novelization by Vonda N. McIntyre, it's a sentient being and its origins are entirely unknown.

According to a later novel by Margaret Wander Bonanno, what basically amounts to alien whales made it. Bonanno has basically disowned the book.

I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?

reply

Spock should have mind melded with Gracie a second time and asked her.

I don't know why Spock didn't ask the whales who the aliens were?
