Save the Whales B.S.

It’s fun to look back and laugh 
The year this came out was the first year of the IWC’s whaling moratorium.

Funny how the anti-whaling lobbyists used popular culture to influence opinion. First the idea of “whale song,” then a movie where whales save the earth.

In Tokyo in 1986 they didn't serve whale fin jerky at the theatre while this was showing, we had to smuggle ours in from a shop down the street. saved us a few Yen at least.

Ya Kirk-loving Spocksucker!

How is it BS? What is your problem with a film with a positive and kind message?

Two insensitive, ignorant imbeciles, dawnantonis! Your typical uneducated, uncultured fascistic MORONS!!!

Certainly it does seem like there were many contrivances made for the purposes of pushing the environmental message- it being uncertain whether whalesong is advanced communication of this type, whether they'd be able to communicate with a probe and how the heck it can communicate by sound through space in a two-way manner (assume it can create vibrations through generating gravitational waves of some kind, but how does it detect what sound the whales are making?) Or the basic moral of "if you don't save the whales, in 300 years time an alien probe will destroy the Earth when trying to work out what happened to them" which is over he top.

MST3K Mantra at the end of the day. It's just a movie, we really should relax... ;-)

Wow, you're peddling really hard on the little bitter-trike.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

The anti-whaling movement was well underway a full ten years or more BEFORE ST4 was even shot.

The film had little if not absolutely nothing to do with the moratorium.

At best if helped get people involved in the movement.
