Catherine Hicks.... Ugh.

I want to write something positive about her before I slam her: she looks and comes off as (charming) super-sexy in this film, and she has aged very well. She is definitely in the top 1 percentile of hot sixty-somethings.

But.... Her acting... No.

The story for this movie is already almost intolerably ridiculous, so her over-the-top facial expressions just send it into unwatchable territory.

I just got out of a theater that had a special screening for this movie. I loved this film when I was a kid, and I hadn't watched it since that time. My fondness for it is now gone.
It definitely has funny moments, and as someone else wrote, should probably be classified as a comedy because the drama doesn't work at all, especially when Catherine is trying to pull it off.

Edit:

I also want to add that the scene with Chekhov running around the ship continues to leave a very bad aftertaste in my brain. A tiny dude with a Russian accent running daintily a few feet past DOZENS of American military dudes as they fall to their chests???? Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeesus.... not ONE of those guys just wanted to grab glory for themselves by tackling him? They're in the f--ing military.

Sh-- movie. Sorry Leonard. Sorry to your memory, but.... Just no.

The one thing that really bothers me in this movie is her line at the end about "I've got 300 years of catch-up learning to do." It would be a disaster to hire someone from 300 years ago to work in the modern day.

It's not really her fault, because she didn't write the line, but man, it bugs me every time.
