Dumb and Dumber reference

SPOILER ALERT

Half-way through the movie Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels go into a diner and con Seabass into paying their bill. They drive off and Jim reveals that he got the idea from watching a movie once.

That movie is called Something Wild (1986), directed by Jonathan Demme.

I have seen both movies and I can reveal what happened, hence the spoiler alert.

Get Seabass to pay the diner bill

Here goes, the movie reference is really IRONIC because Jeff Daniels is in BOTH MOVIES!!! Personally, this could be an inside joke between Jeff and Peter Farrelly.

In Something Wild at around 1:26:00, Jeff orders Ray Liotta (a dangerous ex-con) to give him his wallet and car keys otherwise he will tell a bunch of cops sitting closeby he had earlier robbed a car and shop. Realising he is defeated, he reluctantly gives the keys and wallet but Jeff says he will pay the bill for him. He takes Melanie Griffith (Liotta's estranged wife) with him and pretend to pay.

Jeff and Melanie leave and run like hell to their cars whilst a waitress approaches Ray and tells him that he will be able to pay the bill. Realising he's been had he says "That son of a bitch!" whilst watching Jeff and Melanie leave in his car and can do nothing about it!

"Chased him half-mile down the road and slit his throat"

This DOES NOT happen on the film but Ray manages, with help, to get out of the diner, steal a car and chase them for many miles to New York (from Virginia) and finds Jeff's home address. A confrontation happens which ends in Jeff accidentally slitting (or stabbing) Ray's chest, killing him slowly.

Something Wild is a good film (not as good as D+D), a bit overlong and the ending is quite hollywoody and silly but the music is great, just as good as D+D.
