Guitar solo song

Does anyone know the song played in the scene close to the end of the movie where Charlie walks out and Sister Carol stops him to make him pay his bill. It is an acoustic guitar playing.

I assume it's soundtrack music composed by John Cale as it also appears earlier in the movie.

It caught my attention (both times) as it's quite similar to a couple of Paul Simon riffs.

Yeah, my favorite piece of music from the movie. It really captures the tone of their relationship. I wish they made a score cd as well. Why didn't they include this in the soundtrack????

I have a feeling it may even be a Springsteen piece ... have a listen to the start of "The River", Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band Live/1975-85 (Disc 3) ... the guitar solo is remarkably similar ... and Demme has done so much work with Springsteen ...

Brendan, I just checked out that intro. It's a different chord progression. The one in the film is almost identical to "The Sound of Silence" but a couple different chords. I can't find the origin though.
