Blu Ray
Has anyone seen the German Blu Ray? If so, is there an English audio track? For the life of me, I can't understand why American movies get releases in foreign countries but not here in the states...

It's a cult film here, so why no Blu Ray release? They have already done the 1080 transfer and remastering.
shareAre you sure it's a cult film in the States? Cult films will usually get references somewhere in pop culture. This movie is pretty much forgotten, I only heard about it because I knew Jason Patric and Jami Gertz from The Lost Boys and wanted to see another film with them.
we're almost certain that ghouls and werewolves occupy high positions at city hall
The fact that you and I are talking about it clearly shows that it is a cult film here in the states. Cult films don't have to be "mentioned" in pop culture to be a cult film; a cult film is a film that did not have a mainstream following, yet garnered a cult following of loyal, dedicated fanbase.
Now that the definition of "cult film" has been explored, I'd certainly like to see this get a domestic Blu Ray release.
Two guys talking about a relatively unknown movie on a message board isn't really indicative of it being a cult film :) A cult movie will usually have a dedicated following but also one that would for example necessitate it getting a release in its home country on Blu Ray. That tells me the demand isn't there, thus not many fans.

I think the fact that it aired on Starz in HD recently (and looked fantastic, by the way) shows that there is a market for it. You could argue that they were "just trying to fill air time," but there are so many other, better known movies that could have filled that space.
Judging by some of the comments (and from people I know personally), there is most decidedly a legitimate cult following for this little gem of a movie. I have seen far lesser known movies released on Blu Ray. Since the re-mastering is done, all that would be needed is packaging, pressing and distribution.
I discovered this movie just randomly last year (and I do agree that it does have something, it's a very charming movie), and I then showed it to a few movie fans I know. They didn't think it was bad, but the impression I got was that it wasn't great either (and they have good taste). I think it's a movie that some people will appreciate, but I wouldn't imagine that many.
Networks can air any of type of movie, I'm sure they're compelled to in some cases but sometimes they do so because it can be cheaper than showing a newer release. I do hope it gets a blu ray release, though. It deserves it. The film is just a really cute movie that doesn't pretend to be anything more than what it is. It has a really fun tone as well.

MGM's movie channel has showed it.
I just watched it for the first time.
Other countries may get away with it due to copyright laws.
In regards to music, I know one country does not recognize US copyright laws so they will release big box sets of an artist's entire career because to them it is in public domain.
Some may do it with movies, too.
The music company is in Germany and called Bear Family.
Yes, I've also watched the film on MGM HD as well, looks good but the HD makes the obvious props/effects stand out in detail. I have a 1080p German Blu-Ray rip with both; English audio & Subtitles, colors look pretty nice with lots of grain. Maybe either Shout Factor, Kino Lorber or Twighlight Time could possibly obtain the license to put out a blu Ray here in the states, as someone mentioned above, an HD master DOES exist, MGM is one of those studios that likes to sit on their arses with their home library, American Ninja comes to mind (sigh).
I would say it's a cult film, I remember my uncle and aunt went to see this went during its theatrical run vs seeing Star Trek IV, my uncle enjoyed it back then and occasionally sings Smokey Robinson's "Live will set you free" very now and then. I do remember listeni to the song when it played on the radio back in Thanksgiving of 1986.
The War has only begun, will you defend your destiny?
It's coming soon in the US from Kino-Lorber. Just watched a review copy, quality is pretty good though not quite perfect.
shareA little late to reply but yes it does have an English soundtrack
