From what I understand, he killed himself because of a bad childhood at the hands of his stepfather. That's all I know.

Caroline Munro said Scudmore kept to himself during the making of the movie and seemed very depressed--but she thought he was staying in character. He did die of a drug overdose that happened after the movie was released. Why he did it I'm not sure. If it was because of a bad childhood I really feel for the guy. Filming that humiliation scene in the movie couldn't have been easy and might have brought back bad memories. I've seen plenty of horror films but I think what happened to him here was going way too far.

as usual with drug overdose - and, no mention of a note, it is possible it was accidental (although self treatment with drugs of many kinds is akin to suicide - though often not intended as such.
