They played it relatively straight...don't you think?

To some degree yeah. But prior to the death scenes its mostly played light.

that's becausee this wasn't meant to be tongue in cheek. This was simply a very bad hororr film. it's a hallmark quite how bad it is that you think it is tongue in cheek. it's not meant to be though.

Yeah. I was always under the impression this was a more comedic slasher (not sure why) but it was largely serious.

It has some silly moments but it mostly takes itself pretty seriously.
