question about alternate versions? (spoiler)

So I watched this movie for the first time tonight, but I remember seeing the very end several times, although its not the end I saw. When I watched it tonight it ended right after the shoot out in the building with billy crystal and gregory hines talking and one says to the other two cops "want to buy a bar?" But I swear I've seen just the end on tv at least a few times where they are walking under a railway (or something) and talking to each other I dont' remember exactly what they say but its something that suggests they may still want a bar someday or that they woulnd't have liked it anyway, I don't quite remember. But I swear I've seen just the end on tv several times and it's always the same, always them walking and talking. Is there a different ending thats on tv sometimes? Or do I always think it is this movie when it really isn't?

I just watched the DVD (again!) and the ending is as you described first. I also would be interested in knowing if there is an alternative ending out there.

When a movie is placed on television, with commercials, sometimes the running time doesn't meet exactly two hours, to incorporate the commercials. This is the case typically when Halloween is broadcast, they 'add' footage that you haven't seen before. I would assume this is the case with Running Scared, because having seen the movie (without commercials) numerous times, the ending has always been after the line 'wanna buy a bar?'

This is the case with Jaws-The Revenge as well, in one version the character of 'Jake' does survive after falling into the jaws of the shark, and in one version he doesn't reappear....it's all due to the length of time available to show the film, and which version they choose.

Hope that explains it.

i saw this movie when it came out in the theatre. the ending has always been wanna buy a bar?. although the ending you mention, sounds a lot like money train. which ends with wesley snipes and woody harelson walking down the street cursing each other out. hope this clears it up for you.

Completely off the Running Scared subject, but yeah, i noticed that in Jaws the Revenge, Jake doesn't reappear at the end, when in the Cinema version (yes i was sad enough to que up to watch this crap) he does and quite obviously survives.

But on the Running Scared subject, i've always seen the "Wanna buy a bar" ending. and on that note...

...great movie!
