Worth watching?
I'm not big on cheesy romance films, is the romance a big aspect of this?
shareAbsolutely worth watching. Not cheesy at all. The romance aspect is very repressed due to the main character’s conflict with her own changing values. The film revolves around a small group of tourists (and later Engish villagers) as they clash cultures with Italians and break the walls of traditional class systems with each other. The characters are all colorful and interesting. The cast is full of platinum talent: Maggie Smith, Daniel Day Lewis, Judy Dench, Denholm Elliot, Helena Bonham Carter. Also it is beautifully filmed in Florence, Italy and Surrey, UK.
shareSounds like the romance aspect isn't a big part at all. I'll add it to my watchlist.
shareIt is a romantic film and there is a romance, but the film has so much more to offer than just a love story. The characters are a funny mix of people. The juxtaposition of very rigid Victorian Brits in a sensual, passionate Italian city and lush countryside is very entertaining in the first half and sets up all the conflicts that play out back home in the second half.
shareRosemary Leach, Fabia Drake, Simon Callow, Rupert Graves (lol),
shareI love this movie and I don't care for sappy Hallmark romances.
