Hoops was a nickname. I know his given name was said at one point but I can't remember what it was. I was also wondering what ack ack's was. I know that his father didn't call him ack ack. Just curious.

His name was Hoops. His father was a great basketball player, and probably named his son Hoops in hopes that he would also become a great basketball player.
As for Ack-Ack, he was also referred to as "Acky" by his father.
I think Ack-Ack WAS his name, and Acky was the familiar shortened form.
