Where the name 'Hoops McCann' comes from

The song "Glamour Profession" by Steely Dan

"6:05
Outside the stadium
Special delivery
For Hoops McCann
Brut and charisma
Poured from the shadow where he stood
Looking good
He's a crowd pleasing man
One on one
He's a schoolyard superman
Crashing the backboard
He's Jungle Jim again
When it's all over
We'll make some calls from my car
We're a star"

You're right, stantonious! I was wondering whether someone else would get that. No one else gets that the Jimmy the Saint character in "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead" comes from a Bruce Springsteen song (Lost in the Flood), or that the term "Boat Drinks" (from the same movie) is a Jimmy Buffet song. Good call! And, pbl1...I care (not that you care that I care, but still...).

I've never seen this movie, but the Dan reference makes me want to see it now :)

I'm a longtime follower of The Dan, who has seen this film a BUNCH of times. But, funny enough, today, was the first time that I caught the "Glamour Profession" reference. I guess I've just never payed attention to the character's last name. I even rewound the dvd, to make sure that I wasn't mistaken. So, props to Savage Steve, or whomever else threw that tribute in the script. Although, "Gaucho" might only be my sixth-favorite Steely Dan album, it's still cool to see a little credit given to Becker and Fagen.

Ps. The guy who said "who cares", is probably some meathead Eagles fan. LOL!
