Question
Was it ever explained why Teddy and his dad will lose everything if they lost the race?
shareWas it ever explained why Teddy and his dad will lose everything if they lost the race?
shareIn all reality they wouldnt have...they just thought that way. At the end of the movie the grandpa tells them it doesnt really matter if they would have won the race or not...he still wasnt gonna finance the restaraunt that the father had sunk all his money into.
shareUntrue.
It was strongly implied that if Teddy didn't bring home first place in the Regatta, then the old man would kick them out of their home and pretty much write them out of his life and his will.
Whether this is true or not is another story.
I never heard the old man say one damn thing about it....teddy's dad is just paranoid and sick
sharewell marionstud, if you didnt hear the old man say one damn thing about it, then you need to watch the damn movie again...
Teddy's dad: Are you ready for the regatta, Ted?
Teddy: Yeah, sure I'm ready, the sloops a beauty, I can't lose.
Dad: Good, if you screw it up this year Ted that decaying old man, your grandfather, takes everything away. Do you understand Ted? If you don't come home with that trophy we lose it all - no more pools, no more Ferrari...and do you know what happens then Ted?
Teddy: Dont say it dad
Dad: That's right Ted, you'll have to go to....
Teddy: NO!
Dad:...WORK!

well listen here marion "stud"...if you're gonna drop a damn card on somebody, you damn sure better be able to handle it coming back at you...so bring it!
And yes I did provide the dialogue between Teddy and his dad, which pretty much provided the plot for the entire movie - grandpa threatening to take everything away unless they win the regatta, which leads to the gang building their own sloop to save the day (and the house). I could of course quote grandpa in the end after the race to this effect, but you likely wouldn't believe that either, unless it was notorized and witnessed by Bruce Willis and Ashton Kutcher. It sounds like everyone else on these posts "gets it", so if you're still struggling let me know and I'll have Savage Steve give you a call and clarify it for you...snapperhead!
Well, Teddy's father mentioned in his first scene that if he doesn't win the grandfather will take away everything they own and therefore Teddy would have to work, which he doesn't like. Maybe the grandfather is supposed to be seen as a jerk at that point but at the end when he finally talks he turns out to be a real nice guy and understands that friendship is more important.
shareYes, it was because whenever they post a question in a forum, they gave it the title 'question'. Those people are loosers!
