For what it aimed to be, I thought the flick great. It was a good start for Cusack, and showed where he would eventually go. But I found Demi Moore and her acting the weakest part of this admittedly not so ambutious flick (which makes that worse).
She is better in some of her later films (loved her in Disclosure), but not this one.
I actually didn't think any of the actors were really that great even John Cusack though I have seen him do better performances.
I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.
Maybe I am biased cause he is one my favorites, but I at lesat thought Cusack showed the promise of what he would become. Didn't get that out of Demi, and sorry but character actors in a movie like that are just that (although Booger showed that he'd already perfected the art that he would ride to fame).
shareI agree - John Cusack did fairly well, but most of the rest of the acting was kind of... meh. I think the worst part about Demi Moore is that I just flat-out didn't feel any chemistry at all between Hoops and Cassandra. I don't know if it was bad acting, bad directing, or just choosing the wrong people for the roles, but I didn't buy them as a couple. They'd have been better playing brother and sister.
shareFaithish is right about the lack of chemistry. There was much more between Cusack and Daphne Zuniga in The Sure Thing and Diane Franklin in Better Off Dead. And of course Ione Sky in Say Anything. Demi was pretty blah.
shareSusanna Hoffs would have been wonderful. Her vulnerability would have provided better reason for Cusack to go to such great lengths to help. I hear she can sing too.
shareThis felt like a low budget comedy made for tv Nickelodeon movie, so I didn't expect much. Most of the cast did ok though seeing as it was an early part in their careers....

She was a bit bland at some points in the movie, but for the most part I found her convincing. Plus, she looked real good.
As for the chemistry (or lack thereof) between her and Cusack, it wasn't strong but they still made a lovely pair. :)
What do you think the teacher's gonna look like this year?
Cassandra should have been on the boat with them during the race. I think even the director and actors said that on the DVD commentary.
