My guess is that she just somewhow beacme infected with the ora of madness that was surrounding the town. I think it was implied that everyone in Oldfield was murderous or link to some type of madness, whether it be devil worship, witchcraft, cannibalism, or murder. That was because the town started in an evil way, as described in the fourth segment.
