In the final section about the origins of Oldfield, who is the old guy talking to when he tries to escape from the children and is running into the woods? Is that one of his friends or is it the guy he shot in the back earlier? I couldn't make out who it was/what was happening.

I thought it was Pike, the guy he shot.

The others are correct. It is definitely Pike.
