I have the VHS of this performance, so I can't speak to the hazards of the "digital cannon" on this particular CD, but Telarc CD's frequently came with these kind of warning labels. Telarc was one of the first recording companies to do digital exclusively and were very proud of the extreme dynamic range and the impressive (maybe exaggeratedly so) bass quality of their recordings. The 1812 Overture also carried the "digital cannons" warning and their recording of Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite warned of "digital thunder". Symphonic Star Trek by Telarc even cautions "sound effects set to stun!" These CD's are certainly capable of shredding woofers if played loudly (I lost one to Fennell's Telarc recording of Handel's Royal Fireworks Music) but I suspect the warning labels may have been to some degree a sort of tease or marketing device. You know how people can't resist something that might just be a little bit dangerous.
