Is there any news of this being made on blu ray? I really want to see it, but I tend not to buy any non-blu ray films these days since I don't want to rebuy them later.

It's been released on blu-ray in Germany.

It seems the Blu ray release only has the german audio track, no english audio.

Yes, it is, and the quality, though far from what you'd expect from a movie made today or even from a really good remastering job, is significantly improved as compared to the DVD. The image is better and clearer, and the sound is very good.
