Any other films like this?

More of the time it was set in and the 'orgainic' style of the film rather than the story?

THE HOUR OF THE PIG (1993) - is a murder-mystery set in the 14th Cent. and is similar tale of medieval intrigue.

If you like the medieval monastery setting, check out the Brother Cadfael mysteries starring Derek Jacobi. They are excellent, and Brother Cadfael reminds me a lot of Sean Connery's character.

You could try Ladyhawk.

I'll second the Cadfael series. It's one of my all time favorite TV shows dealing with a monk who solves crimes.

This also reminded me of the Cadfael series. I would recommend the original books, however. I'm not sure the video series did justice to them.

The devils, a much more twisted view of the faith and a lot more nudity too. A great film about French Heritics staring Oliver Reed

I haven't read the book(s) by Dan Brown, but if you want to see how good The Name Of The Rose is in comparison to them on the film front, check out 'The Da Vinci Code' and 'Angels & Demons'.

And the game 'Assassin's Creed' (on PS3 and Xbox 360) might tickle your fancy (set in The Holy Land during the second crusades).

Cheers!
