Sean Connery's best film

And yes, I include the dreadful James Bond in that.

reply

Bond will always be his signature, but you do have an arguable point when it comes to quality.

reply

This one is his 3rd best role for me.

1. The man who would be king
2. Finding Forrester
3. The name of the rose

Like your other two, but my top three would be:

1. The Name of the Rose
2. Hunt for Red October
3. Outland (and I know most critics would not agree on that)

reply

Well, yes I really love Connery in "Outland". Maybe not his most remarkable role, but he's very good.

No idea if it was a low point...but he made one of his best films point low or high.

At that point in his career he was still struggling to shake off the James Bond image (he had done "Never Say Never Again" only 4 years or so prior to this film - granted, sort of a spoof, but still a James Bond film). It was he who wanted the part real bad, Annaud wouldn't hear of it: "What? James Bond as a Franciscan Monk? I don't think so". He too had kept this image of Connery as the sleek, clean-shaven secret agent, until he finally met him.

reply

I liked "Woman of Straw" but it has never been released on DVD. I haven't seen it in years.

reply

Top 5 (maybe 3).
btw
If you like Connery watch The man who would be king. It's as good as this one.
