Why is religion such a source of conflict for Harrison Ford? Why is he so opposed to religion / missionaries in the film? Who do you think does more damage to the native culture in the film, the religious (missionaries) or the scientist (Harrison Ford)? Why?

there will always be a conflict between science and christian religion.
there was some explanation in the movie. he didnt like missionaries, because they tell people to endure and live with their daily burden, while ... and this pretty hard to swallow for serious religious folk... he thinks god didnt complete his creation and its up to humanity to do it.
edit: i dont think fords character did any damage to the natives. they obviously have been in contact with civilisation before.
for me, the missionary is a negative character: hes lying, he tries to make people feel guilty, its clear he wants power over the natives and the church with the tv is really pathetic, as are his sermons. but i dont think that he has too much negative effect on the natives because after all hes building some kind of society.
