What happened to Ford at the end?
What exactly happened to Ford's character? Did that preacher dude shoot him?
shareWhat exactly happened to Ford's character? Did that preacher dude shoot him?
shareYes, he did shoot Allie when he saw him there on his property and knew right away he was the one to set the fire.
shareThe preacher shot towards a shout he heard, which was a bit Pistorius of him. He did not deliberately aim at anyone, the lord did the aiming.
Opinions are just onions with pi in them.
Good riddance.
shareThe preacher murdered Allie, plain and simple. It wasn't just about burning a church. When he got Allie in his sights, he saw his chance to get revenge against someone who dared to defy him. He had legal cause to shoot him, but that was just his cover. He could have had his followers hold him and turn him in to the authorities.
So in the end, the forces of oppression, intolerance, punishment and fear (ie, western civilization) prevailed over freedom, individuality and self expression.
I totally agree with Allies opinion of missionaries. They travel the world forcing their religious dogma on people who are too ignorant to know any better. Their real goal is psychological enslavement, followed by economic and political oppression.
We got a job.
What kind?
...The Forever Kind.
The way he died in the book was a shocker. Guess that would have been too hard to film and keep a PG rating.
How did he die in the book?
Our first intuitions are the true ones.
He was on the beach, trying to crawl to the river. By the time his family noticed, he had been attacked by five vultures that had parts of the flesh from his head. The last sentence from the book: I grabbed a stick from the sand, but even as I went forward, a vulture bent over and struck and tore again, like a child snatching something extra because he knows he will be scolded anyway, and this one had his tongue. End of story!
