If something is wrong with America, it is people with the same mindset as Allie. Bringing their "superior" ways of life to the lowly "savages." Disgusting.

shareWhat was wrong. The guy nailed it. This country is a mess and it didn't get better since this movie was made. Should we all just go along and accept that or try and better things by starting over. At least he tries. People are lazy, self centered and ignorant more every day in this country. I thought it was a great film that ran out of steam a bit in the end but was still good.
shareI don't think there was anything "wrong" with the character being a jerk, but he was a jerk. I thought it was headed for self-righteousness, but in the end I wasn't sure of any of that. I just knew he was a certain kind of crazy. Ford was brilliant.

The movie clearly ends up saying Ford's character is wrong on so many levels...
One good thing about the movie is that it doesn't make a value judgement about Allie. It just tells his story and leaves it to the viewer to judge. And yeah I like to think most people would find him to be a bit of a self righteous cock sucker.
