I regret now i wasted 45 minutes( obviously i fast forwarded it) of my life watching this movie. :(

Paul Theroux is a great writer, and this is a pretty good adaptation.
Shame you guys didn't dig it.

I dug it, dude. It wasawesome, he was a total nutcase fanatic. The mother should have stepped in waay sooner and who could ask for more than River phoenix?!!

It is NOT a waste of time. The line "I think about you when I go to the bathroom" alone is worth the ticket. (BTW that's the only thing I remember about this film which I actually saw in theater. That and the dad's obsession with ice.)
