Breaking Bad...and This Really Bad Movie
Stephen King wrote and directed this from his own short story ("Trucks.")
Evidently(King himself claimed) he was high on cocaine for most of the filming. It kinda shows.
And the film rather stands as an indictment of King's "genius": prolific author that he is, and source of good-to-great movies (Carrie, The Shining, Shawshank, Misery, IT)...no genius could make something this bad -- indeed, the dialogue is worse than the action.
So.. bad movie.
But...Breaking Bad?
SPOILERS for the finale of Breaking Bad and for this movie:
Around the third act of Maximum Overdrive the "possessed and driverless trucks" that have laid siege to a North Carolina truck stop bring in some equally possessed reinforcements: a bulldozer and...a platform with a big machine gun mounted on a revolving platform.
The "rigged machine gun" returns for the finale of Breaking Bad...hidden by anti-hero Walter White in the trunk of a car, rigged so as to rise out of the trunk.
And in BOTH Maximum Overdrive AND Breaking Bad...once somebody triggers this "automatic weapon," it starts shooting in a spray circle, on its own, in a manner that kills a lot of people.
The weapon is just too directly LIKE the weapon in Breaking Bad to be a coincidence.
Unless...great minds think alike 30 years apart.
