I wouldn't go that far. It would only take 100000000000 smoke detectors to reach 20 kilos. That's one hundred billion if you don't want to count zeros. If I was going for an atomic bomb, but I'm not. I would only need a fraction of that for a dirty bomb. I do agree though. If you're going through that much expense it's really not hard to score uranium and plutonium from the former U.S.S.R. I'll leave that to the individual to discover how.
