I think there are a lot of movies that wouldn't be made anymore today, which is a big shame. This is a great rather unknown movie. The main problem any studio executive would have with it today is the New York setting. Other reasons may include that there are hardly any bigger productions with such a slow pace anymore, or this kind of subject, or the fact that it's hard to brand it into a certain genre. The TV station that aired this movie where I saw it labeled it as a horror/comedy. The movie is very funny at times but I wouldn't call it horror. There is a lot of suspense building which would merit the title thriller.

to see this converted to the Post-9/11 era would be quite a spectacle if you ask me. as it's not deemed a classic like Carrie, but a cult classic, it would probably translate a lot better to today.

I doubt today that they would be developing plutonium prell in a facility guarded with only a chain link fence and a horny rent-a-cop. That's Reaganomics for ya.

not to mention the girl smoking cigs

tho i think she was about 20 at the time

still

tons of things in this movie, that wouldn't be made post 911

Spielberg (as Executive Producer) link: DeLorean in driveway around the 5:12 mark.

Shoot him, cut out his tongue, then shoot his tongue.

Yeah, just look what happened to that Arab kid in Texas when he brought a clock radio to school in a briefcase!
