Lights out, Paul.
In reality the feds likely would have (and should have) ordered one of the snipers to shoot Paul, and probably Lithgow too since they had a ummm nuclear bomb and at times acted aggressively. Besides Paul being a smirking little Liberal twerp who deserved to die, his mere possession of a nuclear bomb warranted him being stopped by any means necessary. A detonation would've done more than destroy the town and spread fallout; Soviet satellites would've picked up the detonation and the Kremlin may very well have freaked out thinking the Americans would blame them. Things could have escalated from there. Of course that's an extreme example. At the very least the incident, even without a detonation, demonstrated that anyone with enough knowledge could construct a rudimentary nuke...and we all know Paul didn't keep his big mouth shut after the fact. This incident would have shown that the government didn't have control.
Also, Cynthia Nixon's acting sucked, so the feds should have walked outside and shot her too, point blank in that dumb blonde noggin. And all those schmucks in the parade of cars...what were they going to do? They were, however, witnesses so the feds should have surrounded them and shot them all as well. You know, national security.
