Maggie is a total bitch

Trying to act all innocent while she steals Cappie and doesn't even feel bad about it. I know it takes two, but she didn't even say once "maybe we shouldn't do this because you have a girlfriend". I was glad that alise let Cappie have it in the car, and the death stare that she gave Maggie, but I was so disappointed that she didn't slap the shut out of her! Especially the way Maggie was looking back at her like Alise is the bad guy that is just being mean. In reality the whole squad would have given her attitude and Alise would have kicked her ass before she broke it off with Cappie.

Yes, yes. This movie would have been so much better with character development. I have a feeling they were trying to make the girl friend a the antagonist when she was really the victim. Also Lucas had another girl interested in him but he was going for the gold. Someone like him may grow up accomplish, and get the hot girl as a trophy while she only wants his pockets.

Totally agree. I would have loved to see Maggie get her butt kicked by Alise!

I completely agree. For years I watched this movie and rooted Maggie on to get with Cappie. But seeing this as an adult years later I feel really bad for Alise! Cappie was totally ready to cheat on Alise with Maggie if she hadn't dumped him first. He was with Alise, but out right flirting with Maggie the entire time. And then had the nerve to get defensive and act like he wasn't doing anything wrong. Maggie acts all innocent when she's clearly got her sights on a taken man. Alise didn't stand a chance and the movie makes her out to be the bad one when she IS the victim in all of this.

Never got why people still bag on Maggie after all these years. She didn't encourage Cappie. If he wants to throw away 3 years with the same girl over some new chick he's pretty much the bad one in this situation. Maggie just goes along with it for obvious reasons. And as far as Lucas is concerned, he was too young and awkward and well...would you date him, you older, pretty girls out there?

"Jesus, does anyone?"

reply

How did Maggie NOT encourage Cappie? Let's see...she stared at him while he was making out with Elise at the movies, then chatted him up after the movie (which obviously made Elise insecure). Then she volunteers to teach him how to use the washer/dryer, knowing it will score her some one-on-one time without Elise there. Then, instead of leaving after she shows him to use the washer, she uses the excuse that he won't know how to use the dryer unless she's there. All she had to do was explain that he puts his clothes in, he sets the timer, and presses a button. She wanted to be there with him alone, which is why she stayed. Then when he compares her to Elise (chewed up gum would gross her out) she tries to distinguish herself by saying, "Oh, not me." Then, she joins cheerleading because Cappie tells her he thinks she should! Seriously, she never showed one iota of interest until HE suggested it. Then she decides to become "buddy buddy", as Elise puts it, with Cappie, by staring, talking, walking, and flirting with Cappie every chance she gets. And she sure didn't kick Cappie out when he came over after the break-up, even though Lucas had spent money and time preparing for a date with her. She didn't even use common courtesy with Lucas as she was so eager to land Cappie. Nor did she waste one second becoming his new girlfriend.

Cappie had a wandering eye, yes. However, Maggie absolutely encouraged it every chance she got!

Not to say she was pretending she wanted to make new friends so stealing the boyfriend of one of the girl of your cheerleading group is probably to worst way to do it.

But that’s ok. That’s high school. That’s life. I don’t blame Cappie or Maggie for going out. As far as Elise goes, I feel for her, but I don’t feel bad for her. No one likes to get dumped, but it happens for innocent reasons like it did with Lucas.

reply

Well high school is not a free pass. The morality of the situation is still dubious.

Maggie is not a bitch. Although you can’t deny that she took a liking to Cappie almost immediately, but she never threw herself at him. In fact, she was pretty restrained. I think she liked the attention, but what teen girl wouldn’t? Elise is a victim here, but her insecurity did make her antagonistic against Cappie. Had her cooler head prevailed instead of going in attack mode on Cappie, I’m sure Cappie would’ve been able to understand how Elise was perceiving all of this and laid off on Maggie. Elise did have a point after all, but insecurity is an ugly thing. They are teens; they don’t have the advantage of wisdom. Maggie never kissed Cappie or treated him as a date until after he broke up with Elise.
