Why no Dan Aykroyd or Chevy Chase?

A great musical, with a great performance by Rick Moranis and an absolutely show-stopping turn by Steve Martin. Its clout is only enhanced by cameos from John Candy, Bill Murray (priceless), and Christopher Guest.

So you got room for one more cameo, and you give it to...JAMES BELUSHI?! Why? Wouldn't Aykroyd or Chase been a much more welcome addition than Belushi (who I've never had any qualms with)?

It's only a cameo, but still...

Agreed, Aykroyd would have been perfect.

I actually loved the Belushi's cameo. But I wondered myself too - Candy and Murray but no Aykroyd?

It's weird but I always remember Belushi as Akroyd. Then I watched the movie again last night and my brain just leaked out my anus.

It would have been the perfect tune-up for Chet Roman in The Great Outdoors the following year (co-starring Candy).

A real missed opportunity, IMO.

They could have gotten Chevy to be the guy who comes in at the beggining inquiring about the "strange and interesting plant".
