Is it just me or did universal studios make a big mistake in closing down the kongfrontation attraction in florida. Everytime I went there, it was one of the more popular attractions. When I went there after it had closed, there were alot of bewildered and dissappointed tourists standing outside of the defunct ride. Now, the new movie is comming out and it seems as though it will be quite a money maker for the studio. Does anybody have anymore information as to why they made this decision?
its probably because it was based on the 1976 movie, it had the 1976 movie on the screen when you were in the queue, is the new movie from universal? it might of been bought off
I was greatly dissapointed and i asked them why! And they told me that the old king kong ride was in bad condition. It broke everyday and had to be fixed. The man who told me this also said that it was not fixable because kong was attached to the ceiling...well the ceiling was giving in. And it was collasping. So there you go...
They torn it down to make the Mummy Revenge Ride in the same building. It a rollar coster inside of the building it not that good compare to king kong.I went on king kong ride in 1998 and again in 2001. On my next trip in 2005 they had the mummy. If you like back to the future ride then go before halloween because they are putting a new ride they what I do not know, but they anounced that next year they will put a Sonic the hedgehog ride, and a Gremlins ride, and a Backdraft ride too. So I looking forward to my return. Last of all my favorite rides they is Men in Black, Jurassic Park, and Spiderman.
I had heard that they closed the ride down, but I had thought that it was only going to be for a few months, and that it would open up later again, however, if what dlthill4 says then I guess that is out of the question.
I might have gotten it mixed up with the Jaws ride, which I think was also recently shut down.
Come on Warner Bros, give us our Blade Runner Special Edition
the 2005 King King is by universal, i believe they should build a new ride based on the 2005 Version. It sucks they're taking out the BTTF ride, that was my favorite! they'll prolly put some crappy Bring it On themed ride or something in there
i live in uk but come to florida alot, i remember back in my early days going on kong kong it was great, and yes i was dissapointed hearing it was gone. I like the idea about a new king kong one though!
O and please dont take away the back to the future ride its great!
"You are part of the rebel alliance and a traitor, take her away!"
BTTF breaks down a lot, and the design is flawed so a lot of people have to Emergency Stop (E Stop it) for being either sick or hurt. Though not as many people get hurt as on JP, that bar keeps hitting people... ANYWAY thats form when I worked at the hollywood location in administration. Better get there before it's gone.
I was 10 when I went there, I thought the King Kong part was excellent and a little scary and the Jaws scene was fun:) Sad they had to go:( http://www.technomad.com/images/kong_panorama.jpg That bit where the chopper crashed and the ride tilts towards Kong is kinda scary, I loved it:)
I never wanted to go on the ride as a kid because I didn't fancy the idea of a larger-than-life-size gorilla lokking dead at me in the eye, even though I DID know it was all robotic and fake.
But I did go on the BTTF ride. I loved it but was a bit dissapointed by the T-Rex part, it wasn't as exciting as they made it out to be in the commercials. It's real sad to see it go, I can only hope the next ride in its place doesn't suck.
Stuff like this reminds me of "Movie Poop Shoot.com" from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
This is all a shame. They closed King King and Jaws and now they are closing Back To The Future. This makes no sense...to close King Kong for a ride based on the Mummy...The Mummy movie has become a pretty forgotten movie....while those other three are classics. Universal Studios is making a big mistake.
I rode that ride in 97 and have wanted to ride it again since, but when I got the internet I learn its been closed since 2002!!! and now they closed the BTTF ride!!!, but at least the Jaws ride isnt going anywhere(its true!) and they say the Mummy ride is really good so......
1. no if they did it would have opened at around the same time as the movie
2. I dont see why Universal would make a ride based on a Sega game, Gremlins is too old a movie to make a ride now and so is Backdraft, but they do have one at Universal Studios California
I posted more than a year ago about some of the changes going on at Universal Studios in Orlando and now I back with more juicy information.
Universal Studios has replaced the Wild Wild West show with the new Fear Factor stunt show.
Also at Universal that now have a firework display called Universal 360 with clips from famous Universal movies. It takes place in the center of Universal Studios Lagoon in the park, it suppose to be simliar to Fantasmic at MGM studios in Walt Disney World. The show will also used some of the props and set from the past WaterWorld show.
Universal Studios also scrap the Sonic the Hedgehog ride, but are still planning to do Gremlins and Backdraft, as for the Back to the future ride, the ride closed down sometime in September. Universal did state that the ride we be replace with either The fast and the furious or the simpsons, both using the car liked simlated ride like Back to the Future. The thing is both rides would make no sense to be in World Expo.
The only new ride to opened this year is the new High in the Sky Seuss Trolley in Seuss Landings at Islands of Adventures. This attraction provides a bird's eye view of Seuss's Landing on two separate tracks. The trolley travels through the Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous™ restaurant in Seuss Landings.
Universal also stated they have no plans to revive the broken triceratops outside the Jurassic park factiltes building at Island of Adventures.
At the citywalk they opened at new restarant called Bubba Gump Shrimp based off the movie Forrest Gump, a new night club called the Red Coconut and the biggest thing is the new TNA wresting ring at Universal Studios CityWalk
Universal also has Character Breakfast now with The Cat in the Hat and Spiderman.
Universal may also make a jonny quest ride based off the orignal tv show, so watch out for it and a Transformers ride that will go with the new movie. As for me I can not wait to return to Universal Studios to try out some of the new rides and attratrions. If you come to the parks this summer you can see Blue man group who we be a added enterainment at Unviersal Studios. The last thing I can say is they plan to closed down Earthquake the ride, so you better pack your bags soon if you want to ride that ride one more time
It was stated that Marvel Comics plan to make a Marvel theme park overseas. I such hope it doesn't affect the Marvel section at Island of Adventure, like Universal Studios closing that part of the park down.
